Marking a significant milestone in its journey towards sustainability, David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Limited (DPMCL) announced that its Manufacturing Complex in Ranna, located in the Hambantota District, has been officially certified as a Net Zero Energy Facility by Control Union.

DPMCL, the manufacturing arm of David Pieris Motor Company (Private) Limited (DPMC), is the largest automotive manufacturing company in Sri Lanka. It is part of the David Pieris Group, the country’s largest diversified conglomerate with business interests spanning automotive products and services, financial services, logistics and warehouse operations, racing and leisure, ICT, real estate and investment properties, shipping and marine services and renewable energy.

This certification by Control Union marks a first for Sri Lanka, making DPMCL the first organisation in the country to be recognised under the Control Union Net Zero Energy Standard. This landmark achievement is a testament to the Group’s commitment to environmental responsibility, energy efficiency and innovation.

The transition of DPMC’s Ranna Manufacturing Complex into a Net Zero Energy facility was enabled by the installation of an advanced solar energy system, developed and implemented by David Pieris Renewable Energy (Private) Limited. As a result, the facility now consistently generates more renewable energy than it consumes from non-renewable sources such as electricity and fossil fuels. The surplus clean energy production enables the facility to operate with energy neutrality and efficiency.

“It also highlights our in-house expertise and the Group’s integrated approach to renewable energy and innovation,” Mr. Herath added.

“Control Union developed the Net Zero Energy Certification Standard to recognise businesses and corporates that are genuinely committed to achieving climate goals through the integration of renewable energy and the implementation of energy efficiency improvements. We congratulate David Pieris Motor Company for being the first organization to be certified under this standard,” said Mr. Roshan Ranawake, Managing Director of Control Union Inspections (Pvt) Ltd., Sri Lanka.”

The Net Zero Energy status of Ranna Manufacturing Complex stands as a pioneering success story in renewable energy integration in Sri Lanka’s industrial landscape and reinforces the David Pieris Group’s role as a trailblazer in sustainable transformation.
