‘Know Your Neethi’ Legal Aid & Awareness Camp to Empower Communities in Badulla

Legal aid and awareness camps designed to improve legal literacy and access to justice.

The Support to Justice Sector (JURE) Project, funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNICEF Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, is set to launch the first in a series of Legal Aid & Awareness Camps under the banner ‘Know Your Neethi’.

The inaugural camp will take place on 1st and 2nd August 2025 at the Badulla Cricket Stadium, offering community members a unique opportunity to access free legal consultations, engage with government services, and participate in interactive legal literacy activities.

This initiative aims to enhance access to justice and promote legal awareness, particularly among underserved and marginalized groups, including women, persons with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. By bringing legal services directly to the people in local languages, the camp seeks to bridge gaps in legal knowledge and empower individuals to understand and exercise their rights.

The event will feature:

  • One-on-one legal aid clinics
  • Information booths by government agencies
  • Interactive games and forum theatre performances
  • Psychosocial support services

The ‘Know Your Neethi’ campaign is part of JURE’s broader mission to strengthen the rule of law and ensure that justice is accessible to all.
