LK Domain Registry enters into strategic partnership with Norway-based cybersecurity firm

Sri Lanka’s country-code domain administrator, the LK Domain Registry, has entered into a strategic partnership with Norway-based cybersecurity firm to strengthen monitoring and protection of the .LK namespace amid rising online threats.

The move comes as internet usage in Sri Lanka continues to expand, accompanied by a growing number of fake banking websites, fraudulent online stores, phishing emails and malware attacks. Such activities not only mislead users and compromise personal data but also damage the reputation of legitimate businesses operating online. Against this backdrop, safeguarding the credibility and reliability of the .LK digital space has become a national priority.

Under the collaboration, LK Domain Registry will enhance oversight of the .LK namespace through proactive detection and monitoring of abusive domain names. The initiative will include identifying newly detected malicious domains, tracking abuse cases from detection to resolution, and analysing recurring or high-risk abuse patterns. The Registry will also compile and review abuse trends and statistical insights to enable transparent reporting and informed decision-making, while strengthening long-term mitigation strategies across the domain ecosystem.

For .LK domain holders, the partnership is expected to deliver a safer and more trusted online environment. Customers will receive timely notifications on blacklisting events or abuse-related concerns, enabling swift corrective action before issues escalate into domain suspensions or reputational damage. By reducing the risk of undetected or prolonged abuse, the system aims to protect website visitors from phishing, malware and fraudulent activities while enhancing the credibility of domains used for business, institutional and public services.

Prof. Gihan Dias, CEO and Domain Registrar of LK Domain Registry, described the partnership as a strategic step toward reinforcing digital trust. He said the collaboration would strengthen the Registry’s ability to proactively identify, monitor and mitigate domain abuse, while enhancing resilience, compliance and confidence within Sri Lanka’s digital ecosystem.

Lars β€œLG” Forsberg, CTO of iQ Global AS, said the company was pleased to bring its global expertise in domain abuse detection and mitigation to Sri Lanka.

He noted that the partnership would support the proactive identification and resolution of threats within the .LK namespace. iQ Global’s AI-enabled abuse management platform is currently used by over 175 top-level domains worldwide, processing more than 200 million scans daily.
