Thrilling Action Unfolds as Colombo Hockey League Heats Up Across Divisions

The Colombo Hockey Association’s ongoing league season delivered a thrilling wave of action over the past week, with matches played across the Men’s and Women’s Divisions, including the prestigious Pioneer Shield and Division C clashes. Clubs brought their A-game to the turf, delivering intense battles, dominant wins, and inspiring comebacks that underscored the growing competitiveness and energy around local hockey.

10th June – A Day of Drama and Dominance

Kicking off the week, Old Peterites SC battled it out with Old Bens SC in a Division C (Group B) encounter that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. After Old Bens’ Hanuka Perera opened the scoring in the 21st minute, the Peterites struck back with goals from Pasan Rathnayake (26’) and Sharukesh Shivanan (50’) to clinch a 2–1 comeback victory.

Over in the Women’s Division, CR & FC Women made a powerful statement with a dominant 6-0 win against Old Vishakians HC. Thesmi Gunawardena led the charge with two goals (9’, 49’), while Sewwandi added a quick brace (21’, 24’), supported by goals from Natali Sirimanna (32’) and Thisarani (57’).

In the B Division – Pioneer Shield, CR & FC Men’s B Team edged Old Thomians SC 2–1 in a tightly contested battle. Visula gave CR an early lead in the 5th minute, countered by a goal from S. Sanjit (13’). However, Arun’s 49th-minute winner sealed a crucial victory for the CR outfit.

14th June – Young Talent Shines Bright

The action continued on 14th June with another Division C showcase as Royal College Hockey Club dominated Old Asokians SC with a resounding 6-0 win. A commanding performance saw Kithmina and Haazim both score twice, with Rumal also contributing a double in an all-round attacking display.

In the Women’s Division, CR & FC Women continued their fine form, edging Young Ladies HC 1–0 thanks to a 33rd-minute strike by Chanalee K. Guruge. Meanwhile, a cagey affair between Colombo Colts Women and the University of Moratuwa Women ended in a goalless draw — a testament to the defensive discipline on display.

15th June – New Names, Same Passion

The excitement carried into the weekend as Combined Ladies HC clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nomads SC, with Amani’s 22nd-minute strike making the difference. Meanwhile, Old Isipathana HC put on a show in Division C with a clinical 5-0 rout of Colombo Malays CC. Vishwa’s early brace (22’, 26’) set the tone, followed by goals from Malith (33’), Aravinda (42’), and Damith (59’), sealing a commanding win.

From nail-biting finishes to breakout performances, the Colombo Hockey League continues to deliver action-packed encounters that highlight the depth of talent and passion across club and institutional teams. These matches also showcased the professionalism of the technical and officiating crews — with experienced umpires and officials including M. F Laheer, Dinesha A Perera, Dinesh Karan, Akalanka Ishan, Michel Fernando, Manoj Sampath, Randika Fernando, N. Atipola, N.D. Dissanayake, and Greru, alongside dedicated judges and technical officers who ensured smooth tournament operations.
