Ceylinco Life recently held its 21st yearly ‘Pranama Scholarships’ program through a virtual ceremony during which 147 young Sri Lankans who had shined at public exams and extracurricular activities were awarded scholarships surpassing Rs 11.1 million in value.
The commemoration which was live-streamed through Zoom for the second straight year saw the involvement of around 200 pupils, parents, and teachers. Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya attended the online event as the guest speaker.
Present scholarship winners Miss M. B. Amandi Dilshara Samarawickrama placed first in the Galle region and Mr. Thanaraj Sundarbavan placed first in the Jaffna region at the GCE Advanced Level examination and also addressed the audience during the ceremony.
Ceylinco Life ‘Pranama Scholarships’ are given to policyholder’s children who achieve the best results in their individual regions at the Year 5 scholarship examination, the GCE Ordinary Level and the GCE Advanced Level, and to those who sine at the national level in sports, invention, drama, cultural activities, or show other special skills. The Company also pays special cash rewards to policyholder’s children who are placed second, third and fourth at the district level at the GCE Advanced Level examination.
The newest edition of ‘Pranama Scholarships’ awarded 28 students who shinned at the 2021 Year 5 scholarship examination with Rs 120,000 each, payable in installments over five years. An additional 25 students who shinned at the 2020 GCE Ordinary Level Examinations will each get Rs 84,000, payable monthly over two years, while 25 students placed 1st in their regions at the 2020 GCE Advanced Level Examinations will get scholarships valued at Rs 144,000 each, payable over a three-year term.
Additionally, one-time payments of Rs 30,000 each were awarded to 65 students who placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in their regions at the 2020 GCE Advanced Level Examination.
Further, four students who shined in sports, drama, invention, or creative fields in 2020 and 2021 at the national and international level were given merit awards, each to the value of Rs 35,000.
Furthermore, 506 students who were categorized in the top 10 in all three public examinations at a regional level are to be awarded certificates of appreciation at their respective branches, soon.
Since its establishment in 2002, the Pranama Scholarships scheme has ensued in the awarding of Rs 166 million in scholarships to 2,887 students, and with the 21st edition of scholarships given in 2022, that amount has reached Rs 177.1 million and profited 3,034 young Sri Lankans. Ceylinco Life launched the program to lessen the education-linked financial weight on parents. Many past Pranama Scholarship winners are now doctors, lawyers, engineers, or in other vital positions that contribute to the growth of society.
