Rotaract in Rotary International District 3220 joins hands with Fems Aya to help end period poverty in Sri Lanka

Rotaract in Rotary International District 3220 of Sri Lanka and Maldives has joined hands with Fems, the flagship feminine hygiene care brand of Hemas to help end period poverty in Sri Lanka by further expanding the Fems Aya initiative to grassroot communities.

To officially mark the onboarding process, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Fems and  Rotaract in Rotary International District 3220 (RID 3220) at the Hemas House. From March 2021, Fems has been working alongside the project partners of Fems Aya with a vision to end period poverty in Sri Lanka.

Launched in March 2021, Fems Aya is the first-of-its-kind national initiative to be launched in the country. Overtime, this purpose-led initiative has helped normalize the conversation on menstrual health and hygiene, educate both genders, and give women the confidence they need. Strengthened by the valued support provided by like-minded organizations including the ARKA initiative, Dilmah’s Merrill J. Fernando Charitable Foundation, Sarvodaya Women’s Movement and Sarvodaya-Fusion, Fems has been able to empower and encourage more than 15,000 women in various localities in Sri Lanka to adopt better menstrual health and hygiene practices.
